Upper Canada Consultants provides Land Use Planning and Development Management services to the development community. We are seeking to hire a Planning Technician who can provide support to an established Planning Team, assisting in the preparation of Planning Act applications in a variety of ways. This position is best suited for an individual with experience and training pertaining to graphic design programs, specifically AutoCAD, and is capable of preparing development drawings, renderings, building massing models and graphic materials to support development applications.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Urban Planning or related field along with membership and/or eligibility for certification by the Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians.
  • High quality graphic and mapping skills for reports, presentations, and proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects, meeting client timelines and expectations
  • A general or advanced understanding of the Land Use Planning system in Ontario
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high pressure, fast paced environment
  • Excellent drafting and technical drawing skills.
  • Type G Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
  • Proficiency with the following programs, Adobe Suite(Illustrator, Photoshop), Auto CAD, and ARC GIS, other Graphic Design experience is beneficial.
  • Experience in Planning or the Development industry is a benefit

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of development concept plans, along with formal Site Plans and Draft Plans of Subdivision or Condominium
  • Assist with the creation of renderings and 3D models using different programs and software
  • Assist with the administrative duties associated with the preparation of proposals, applications and reports.
  • Office hours 8:30am to 5:00pm, with occasional Committee and Council meetings occurring on week nights as required

We are seeking an Intermediate Land Use Planner with experience in the land development industry that can independently manage multiple projects with a range of responsibilities.  In this role, you will be primarily responsible for making Committee of Adjustment and minor development applications, including project management, preparation of Planning Justification Reports, written correspondence and attendance at Committee of Adjustment and council meetings.  In this position, you can look forward to managing projects that get approved, seeing your projects get built and becoming part of the most knowledgeable development team in the area.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field.
  • Full Member/Candidate Member of the Canadian Institute of Planers (CIP) and a Member/Candidate Member of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the Municipal Planning or Development Planning fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects, meeting client timelines and expectations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Municipal Committee and Council presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team atmosphere.
  • Type G Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
  • Adobe Suite, Auto CAD, ARC GIS experience is beneficial but not required.
